Slavery in the White House with Jesse Holland

Annual Memorial Service

Join us for our annual commemoration of those enslaved here at The Hermitage and throughout the country. The service will feature The Princely Players performing a musical timeline of African-American music, from arrival to emancipation. The performance will conclude with a procession to the enslaved memorial “Follow the Drinking Gourd” behind Hermitage Church. 150 flowers will be laid, marked with the names of all those known to have been enslaved at The Hermitage. Volunteer Orientation

At The Hermitage, volunteers participate in bringing history to life for our guests while they explore the larger-than-life personality of Jackson, the era named for him and the beautiful plantation he called home. Volunteer Orientation is offered quarterly throughout the year and is required before beginning at The Hermitage (group volunteers are exempt).
