  • Where do we go after arriving at The Hermitage? +

    Ample free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center, with a separate lot for buses, motor coaches and RVs. All tours of The Hermitage begin at the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center. Here you will find the ticket office.

  • How can we get the most from a tour? +

    Guests are encouraged to ask questions and take full advantage of The Hermitage’s friendly and well trained staff. To further enrich their experience, they can take a supplemental tour such as the horse-drawn wagon tour.

  • Does the tour spend much time outside? +

    We have a large site and, if you choose, you can easily spend the majority of your tour outdoors on the grounds, so dress comfortably according to the weather. Don’t forget comfortable shoes!

  • How long does a tour take? +

    Most of the tour is self-guided so guests can proceed at a pace of their own. To fully enjoy the tour, plan on spending anywhere from two to four hours at The Hermitage. Note that the last admission tickets are sold at 4 p.m.

  • Is photography allowed? +

    Photography is encouraged on the grounds! Take plenty of pictures to share your experience. However, videotaping and photography are not permitted inside the Hermitage mansion.     The use of tripods, selfie-sticks and drones are prohibited on the property at this time.

  • Are food and drink allowed? +

    Food and drink are not permitted in the Hermitage mansion or in the Andrew Jackson Visitor’s Center, except for sealed water bottles. Visit the Kitchen Cabinet Cafe for food accommodations or bring your own lunch. Picnic tables are available in the courtyard outside the Visitor Center and at the Hermitage Church. We encourage guests to carry water bottles on the grounds.

  • Are backpacks allowed? +

    For your safety and security, all backpacks, large camera bags and large bags must remain in your vehicle. Any items worn or carried are subject to search.

  • Are pets allowed? +

    Yes! Pets are permitted on the historic grounds of The Hermitage as long as they remain leashed. They are not allowed inside any of the buildings including the mansion and visitor center.

  • Is there a lost and found? +

    Items that are lost and turned into our Guest Services staff are held for a period of 90 days. We are happy to send you your item if it has been found.

    If you have lost an item, please email [email protected] or call 615-889-2941 ext. 135 with a description, where you believe it may have been lost or left and contact information with an address where the item may be sent.
