Transit is a hot topic in Nashville right now, and it always has been- from Jackson’s Carriage to Uber, transportation has always been part of the fabric of our country.

Join us Thursday, April 19th at 7 pm as we welcome James T. W. Wheary at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. This event is FREE and open to the public. Mr. Wheary will share the epic rags-to-riches story of his great-grandfather, Charles W. Nash, an automobile industry legend.

 

About Mr. Wheary:

JAMES T. W. Wheary is a seasoned executive who has been active in business for more than 50 years. Mr. Wheary began his business career as an Account Executive with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in NYC, later in Chicago, IL, where he spent nearly 15 years. His responsibilities spanned from management positions executing the buy and sell sides of Commercial Paper to partnering with the Corporate Finance Department in raising capital for growth and expansion of industry for intermediate and long term needs. His clients included Borg Warner Corporation, J.I. Case Co., CNA Insurance Company, International Harvester Company, Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Ford Motor Co., Penn Central R.R., First National Bank of Chicago, First Wisconsin National Bank Milwaukee, Northern Trust Company and State of Wisconsin Investment Board, to name a few.

 

Subsequently, Mr. Wheary was recruited by the First National Bank of Chicago Government Bond Department as Vice President to form a secondary money market operation and to head up the foreign desk for sales of U.S. Government securities to foreign banks and foreign central governments. Later he became Vice President – Chicago of Kleinwort Benson Government Securities (formerly ACLI Government Securities) to sell U.S. Government and Federal Agency Securities to institutional clients. From there he was recruited to serve a similar function for Thomson McKinnon Securities, Inc. as a Vice President and manager of its Chicago Government Bond Department. Finally, he completed over 25 years in his primary Investment Banking and Securities career when he joined Robert W. Baird of Milwaukee as Vice President /Senior Investment Officer in its Chicago North Shore suburban office to sell Managed Asset Programs to institutions and high net worth individuals.

 

In 1990, he decided to become more entrepreneurial and established Wheary Enterprises, Inc. and became its President to participate with his wife in buying and selling real estate investment houses and properties. As a result of success in this endeavor, Town & Country Cedar Homes of Petoskey, MI recruited Wheary and his wife to become the company’s exclusive distributor of custom designed hand crafted building systems for high-end homes in northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. As a part of this program they founded Town & Country Construction Co. in Lake Geneva, WI. for which he became President & CEO.

 

During this same period he found time to also become an Executive Vice President of a Chicago North Shore Career Development, Executive Search and Outplacement Firm. In 1998, he was recruited by DHR International Executive Search Chicago as Managing Director Global Financial Services. Here he filled many CEO, COO, CFO, Partner and Managing Director and Middle Management positions for major clients such as Arthur Andersen, Lands’End, Columbia Naples Capital, n’Spired Natural Foods, Umpqua Feather Merchants and many others. Since mid 2002, he has also been a Managing Director, Sales & Marketing of NetSolutions Group of North Suburban Chicago Land to provide complete Internet and computer networking solutions to companies with revenues of $100 million or more. Wheary has been consulting, assisting businesses in development and working on a variety of recruiting assignments. A considerable amount of his time has been spent consulting for the largest development stage satellite delivered Digital Video Broadcasting Company to provide business news, world news, music & high speed internet service in English to the region of the Caribbean including Nassau & the Bahamas, Latin America, Upper end of South America & Mexico. This will transmit to 52 countries, 57 million people through 250 thousand hotels, resorts & cruise ship lines & 5 million affluent & upscale cable TV users. Wheary later contracted with Marc Realty, one of Chicago’s leading commercial property owners, managers and leasing companies. He was Director of New Business Development. The company owns upward of 50 buildings in the Chicagoland area, as well as a number of properties in   neighboring states. Following this he joined Executives Unlimited, Inc. Executive Search of Long Beach, California as a Managing Director in the firms Chicago Regional Office where he was involved as a consultant and contractor. In 2008 Wheary  became certified in the Lake County School District System in Illinois to guest and substitute teach in Primary and Elementary schools.

 

In addition, he is currently Capital Campaign Executive Director and Major Gifts Chairman, also Professional Services Advisor for Racine Heritage Museum – Racine, WI; Senior Consultant to Kenosha History Center – Kenosha, WI; and Member of the Nash Car Club of America  and Contributing Writer for The Nash Times – Worldwide; Most recently he’s the Producer & Presenter of Nash PowerPoint Slide Show Presentation entitled – The History of Charles W. Nash & Nash Motors “The Greatest Rags to Riches Story in American Automobile History.” He also consults with other 501(c) 3 and Non-Profit organizations.

 

Before joining the corporate world, Wheary graduated from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. with a degree in Business Management and Finance. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wheary is married with three married daughters, six granddaughters, two grandsons and resides in Gurnee, Illinois.
