Rachel’s Trapunto Coverlet Floral Urn Needlework Kit
There are few pieces of needlework made by women of the Jackson family in the collections at The Hermitage. All of these fall into the category of fancy work-made primarily to demonstrate needlework skill. Tradition says that Rachel Jackson made a cotton and linen whitework trapunto quilt consisting of flowers, vines, and a central flower-filled urn with the initials R.J.worked into the design. Trapunto is a type of fancy quilting in which the designs are raised on the surface by stuffing the motifs from the back with batting or soft yarn. This kit is a counted cross stitch adaptation from the floral urn on the trapunto coverlet. Finished size 5 1/2 by 7 1/2on 18 count Charles craft fabric.
